Mehendi Ceremony

← Back to Wedding Guest Guide

A leisurely afternoon of intricate henna, music, and vibrant colour. The Mehendi calls for outfits that are comfortable enough to sit in for hours — and beautiful enough to photograph.

What is the Mehendi?

The Mehendi ceremony is where the bride's hands and feet are decorated with intricate henna patterns by a skilled artist. Guests sit on cushions on the floor, there's live music, food, and many guests get small henna designs done too. It can last 4–6 hours.

What to Wear

This is a daytime, relaxed event so light, breathable fabrics work best. Greens, pastels, yellows, and floral prints are traditional Mehendi colours. A georgette Anarkali, a cotton lehenga, a printed palazzo set, or an indo-western co-ord all look beautiful. Choose loose silhouettes you can sit cross-legged in comfortably.

What to Avoid

Avoid white — Mehendi paste and food can cause stains. Very tight, fitted outfits are uncomfortable to sit in for long periods. Skip very heavy dupattas that get in the way while sitting.
