Reception Evening

← Back to Wedding Guest Guide

The most modern and cosmopolitan event of the wedding week. The Reception is where tradition meets contemporary fashion — and where you have the most creative freedom.

What is the Reception?

The wedding reception is typically an evening event held one or two days after the main ceremony. It's a formal dinner and celebration where the couple officially receives their guests. City receptions tend to be cocktail-style and modern; traditional receptions may still call for full ethnic wear.

What to Wear

The Reception allows the most flexibility. A draped concept saree, an Indo-western gown, a structured lehenga in muted or metallic tones, or even a formal evening dress works well. Evening fabrics — velvet, satin, organza, tissue — look stunning under reception lighting. Men can wear a well-fitted suit with ethnic accessories like a pocket square in Indian fabric.

What to Avoid

Very traditional, heavy bridal-style outfits can look overdressed at a modern reception. Overly casual outfits — jeans, casual kurtas, everyday western wear — won't match the occasion. Check the venue and couple's style before deciding how traditional or modern to go.
