The grandest ceremony of all. Wedding day dressing in India is a serious affair — rich fabrics, traditional silhouettes, and carefully considered jewellery. This is when the full glory of Indian fashion takes centre stage.
The wedding ceremony — whether a Hindu pheras, a Nikah, or a Christian wedding — is the most formal and traditional event of the week. Guests are expected to dress their best in ethnic wear. It's also the longest event, sometimes lasting 4–8 hours.
Silk sarees are the gold standard — Banarasi, Kanjivaram, Chanderi, or Tussar all work beautifully. A heavily embroidered lehenga choli, a formal Anarkali in rich fabric, or an embellished sharara set are excellent alternatives. Men: a sherwani, bandhgala suit, or a well-fitted kurta-dhoti set. Jewellery should be proportional — heavy lehenga means lighter jewellery and vice versa.
Never wear red — it is reserved exclusively for the bride in most Hindu traditions. White and black are inauspicious at traditional ceremonies. Avoid casual western wear entirely. Don't upstage the bride with overly bridal-looking outfits.
A timeless classic. Rich colours, gold zari work. Never goes wrong.
